The Virginia Gazette, May 9 1780:-.John Powell, administrator of Richard Whitehead, in Brunswick County, advertises he will not be answerable for demands against the estate after October next" (This is Richard Whitehead, SR  who died 1779 Brunswick Co., Va)

12 Aug 1781, Richard Whitehead and Mary his wife of Mecklenburg County to James Johnson Jr. of Brunswick County. For 4000 pds current money. 300 acres in Brunswick and Lunenburg counties, part of tract that Richard Whitehead's father bought of Col. David Mason, bounded by the Great Creek, Coventon's line and others on one side and by Ben Whitehead's line on another side and by Mr. Roberts' line on the other side... Richd. Whitehead Witnesses: Benjamin Whitehead, Abraham Cocke, Frederick Johnson_. 28 Jan. 1782. Proved by two witnesses.

Although the following American Revolutionary War Records could possibly be the son of Benjamin & Elizabeth Swepson Whitehead, I firmly believe they most likely belong to the Richard Whitehead who went to Gallatin Co., Kentucky just prior to 1800-sgs

In the Name of God, Amen, I John Harper of Mecklenburg Co, being well in body and of sound and perfect memory, etc, etc

Impremis: After my just debts are honestly paid, I leave the rest of my estate as followeth:

Item: I give and bequeath to my son William Harper five pds cash, to him & his heirs forever.

Item: I give & bequeath to my son John Harper three hundred and twenty one acres of land M or L on S/S Meherrin Riv., incl half the profits of my Mill during my wife's life, and after her decease the Mill with the land above mentioned; also one negro man named Ted with one negro man named Aaron, and 1 negro girl named Sal, with what I formerly gave him to him & his heirs forever.

Item: I give to my son Wyatt Harper ninety-five acres of land in Lunenburg Co., on the N/S Meherrin River Adj, Flatrock Crk and the river; Also thirty-five acres join. Hawe Br on Fisher's line in the same County; Also, after my wife's decease, three hundred and forty-five acres of land on S/S Meherrin Riv. in Mecklenburg County whereon I now live, be the same M or L with one negro man named Osen? and one negro man named Matt, with one feather bed and furniture now in his possession.

with one bay horse by the name of Tatton? with two cows and calves after paying of sixty pounds to my daughter Patsy Harper then the rest to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give to my daughter Susannah Connely fifty pounds cash to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give to my daughter Frankey Harper one negro girl named Hannor, with one negro boy named Toney, with one horse & saddle and one bed & furniture two cows and calves, and one hundred pounds to be raised out of my Estate after my demise to her & her heirs forever.

Item: I give to my daughter Patty Harper one negro girl named Aggy with one horse Bridle & Saddle with one feather bed & furniture, two cows & calves, and one hundred pounds to be raised out of my Estate after my wife's decease to her & her heirs forever. 

Item: I give to RICHARD WHITEHEAD, One Hundred and Twenty-Three Acres of land within the bounds Wherein Edward DAWKINS? made him a deed not having any write at the time in Mecklenburg County, on the S/S Meherrin River, be the same more or less, to him and his heirs forever. 

What other land I am possessed with and not yet willed away with my Mill on Stony Creek in Lunenburg County I leave to be set up and sold to the highest bidder-giving twelve months credit for the use of paying my Debts, and lastly, I lend to my dear and loving wife Frances Harper, the land and plantation I now live on with all my stock of all kinds except those I have willed away with all my household and kitchen furniture with four negroes, namely, Tom, Dick, Moses, & Jane with all that I have not yet willed away during her natural life and after my decease it's my desire that it may be equally divided amongst my six children above named, but in case any of my three children Wyatt Harper, Frankey Harper, Patty Harper, should die without heirs, then it's my desire that their part be equally divided amongst all my surviving children to them and their heirs forever.

I lastly appoint my dear & loving wife Frankey Harper with my son Wyatt Harper Executors of this my last Will & Testament and as Trustees to see this Will executed, Revoking and disannulling all former Wills by me made and declaring this to be my last Will & Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this seventh day of May, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety-Two.

At a Court held for Mecklenburg County the 13th day of January, 1794, This Will was proved by the Oaths of Samuel Marshall & Patty Noblin, Witnesses thereto and Ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Frankey Harper and Wyatt Harper the Executors therein named who made Oath (illeg) and together, with Matthew Lumin, and Samuel Marshall the securities are bound unto and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of three thousand pounds Conditioned as the law requires; Certificate was granted them for obtaining a Probate thereof in due form.

This Indenture made this twenty-first day of October One Thousand Seven Hundred Ninety-Four, Between RICHARD WHITEHEAD  and MARY WHITEHEAD, HIS WIFE, of Mecklenburg County of the one part and George May of Dinwiddie County both of Virginia, of the other part;

Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds Virginia money in hand paid by the said George May the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that the said RICHARD WHITEHEAD and MARY, his wife, have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto  the said George May his heirs or assigns, forever a certain tract of land by estimation containing three hundred and twenty-three acres more or less be the same as being the same land the said WHITEHEAD lives on and bounded as followeth, to wit:

Beginning near Harpers Mill on Meherrin River  thence up the same to Wyatt Harpers, thence along the said Harpers line to Johnson's line, thence along the same to Bowen's line, thence with the same to John Harper's line, and with the same to the Beginning;

To have and  hold the said three hundred and twenty-three acres land with it's appurtenances unto the said George May his heirs or assigns forever, to the only proper use and behoff of the said George May and his heirs or assigns shall Warrant and forever defend from all persons whatsoever.

In testimony whereof the said RICHARD WHITEHEAD and MARY, his wife, have hereunto set their hands and affixed their Seals this day  and year above written.

This Indenture made 9th day of November 1793 between James Laffoon and Jane his wife of Macklinburg [sic] County of the one part and Robert Blackwell of Brunswick County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen pounds . . . and twenty four hundred weight of tobacco . . . by these presents do bargain & sell unto the said Robert Blackwell . . . a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Brunswick containing fifty acres and bounded as follows, to wit, BEGINNING at Lanier's corner on a post oak thence along his line to Sterling Edmunds's corner on a white oak thence along the said Edmunds's line to the mouth of a little branch which is William Keen Samford's line thence up the said branch to the head and thence a strait line out along the courses of the first mentioned line for complement and from thence to the Beginning . . . Know all men by these present that we Benjamin Whitehead and Sally Willis both of the County of Montgomery & State of Tennessee having concluded to intermarry have agreed and covenanted with each other upon the following marriage contract viz: I Benjamin Whitehead do hereby agree and covenant with the said Sally Willis, that all the property both real and personal belonging to said Sally Willis or that may be aloted to her upon a division of the Estate is to (unreadable) to his daughter Sally Willis at his death or the said Sally Willis is at liberty to dispose of her part of the property aforesaid at his death to his daughter Sally aforesaid, & I, the said Sally Willis do hereby expressly covenant & agree with the said Benjamin Whitehead that all the property both real and personal belonging to the said Benjamin Whitehead is to be (unreadable) to his children or the said Benjamin Whitehead is at liberty to dispose of his property at his death to his children aforesaid. I give & Bequeath unto my wife Sally Whitehead one Bed & one Chest & Table also one filly being a colt of the mare which I bought at Elisha Willins (Wilkins?) sale also three head of sheep & One Cow & Calf to her heirs and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my two sons Richard Whitehead and Joseph Whitehead my negro men Isham, George & Jacob & negro Woman Clary & her child Tom and her future increase (which negroes I conveyed to them some time since by deed of Gift) to take effect after my death to them their heirs assigns forever.
Item I lend to my daughter Betsy Trotter for and during the term of her natural life one negro woman called Grace & all her children except Alick and her future increase; at her death I give and bequeath said negroes to all her surviving children (except her son Mitchell Trotter who is hereafter provided for) to (unreadable) her her heirs & assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my grandson Mitchel Trotter on negro Boy called Alick Graces' son to him his heirs and assigns forever.
